Reading settings and a light theme

Releases 1.14.1 to 1.15.1.

  • A Settings tab at the end of the reader row holds how the site looks for you, kept on your account so it follows you to every device: a dark or light theme, or one that matches your device; the font for chapter text or the whole site, from the site font, a serif, a monospace, OpenDyslexic, Atkinson Hyperlegible, a font installed on your own device, or up to five fonts you upload yourself; and the chapter column's text size, width, paragraph spacing, line height and your own text and background colours. The content preferences have moved there from the Account page.
  • Chapter text is a softer off-white on the dark theme and sits in a column of about seventy characters, which is easier on the eyes over a long read.
  • The Account page keeps keyboard shortcuts, the newsletter, notifications, text-to-speech for readers and Delete Account. The Account Archive has moved to a Settings tab at the end of the author row.
  • Deleting an account now prepares an archive only when there is something to put in it. An account with no writing, pictures or reader activity goes straight to the 30-day countdown.
  • Premium authors can give their pages a look of their own from the Premium tab: a banner across the top of the author page and series pages, and an accent colour for the links and buttons on all of their pages, in a dark and a light version.
  • The Help page explains the reading settings, your own fonts and their licences, the archive and the author look.
  • Fixed in 1.14.1: the Edit Profile form's Save failed with a script error.
  • Fixed in 1.15.1: the placeholder book cover's title and author were hard to read on the light theme, and deleting the uploaded font you were using left the font choice pointing at the next upload instead of the site font.

Display names

Version 1.14.0 · October 6, 2026

Release 1.14.0.

  • Every account now has a display name, shown on your series, books and chapters, your author page, your comments and the new-chapter emails your followers receive. It can carry spaces and capitals, while your username stays as it is for web addresses and your author subdomain. The display name is set when a username is claimed (the page suggests one from the username, with a space before each capital letter) and can be changed at any time on Edit Profile. Accounts that already had a username start with it as their display name.
  • The Author Name field has left the New Series and Edit Series forms. A series is credited to its account's display name; the public domain classics keep naming their writers.

Move chapters between books

Version 1.13.0 · October 6, 2026

Releases 1.10.0 to 1.13.0.

  • Chapters can be moved from one book to another book in the same series. On a book's page, Move Chapters puts a checkbox beside each chapter; tick the ones to move, choose the book and whether they go at its start or its end, and they move in the order they had. Each chapter keeps its own state (published, draft or scheduled), and nothing is announced to followers again. A chapter whose web address is already taken in the other book is refused by name. The Help page's Writing section has a Moving Chapters Between Books topic.
  • The chapter editor has a Preview mode beside Writing and Revising. It shows the chapter as readers will see it, unsaved text included, while the word count and auto-save keep working; choosing it saves straight away when auto-save is on.
  • A series, book or chapter now says which of four AI uses it involves: AI writing, AI images, AI audio or AI editing, in place of one "AI-generated" flag. Readers hide each use separately from Content Preferences on the Account page, and the Terms name the four uses.
  • The New Series and New Book forms are tidier: placeholders instead of hints, and one Language list that includes the English spelling varieties. The Language list stays inside its card on narrow screens.

Say which parts of a story used AI

Release 1.12.0.

  • The single "AI-generated content" box on the series, book and chapter forms is now four: AI writing, AI images, AI audio and AI editing. Tick every one that applies. A cover made with AI no longer marks the writing as AI, and a chapter whose linked video has AI narration can say so on its own.
  • The box at the top of a series, book or chapter page lists each use where it comes from, the way it lists content warnings.
  • On the Account page, under Content Preferences, the four uses can be hidden one by one. Hiding one takes stories that used AI that way out of the home page, browse and search; a direct link still opens them. The section is reordered: mature content, then content warnings, then AI.
  • The Terms of Service say which uses must be disclosed, so they move to version 1.4.0 and ask for your agreement again at the next sign-in.

Preview a chapter while you write

Release 1.11.0.

  • The Writing and Revising switch above the chapter editor has a third choice, Preview. It shows the chapter as readers will see it, including what you have typed and not yet saved, with the editor and its toolbar out of the way. The word count and auto-save keep working, and Writing or Revising brings the editor back with your text as it was.
  • Preview is not saved on your account, so the editor always opens in Writing or Revising.
  • The Help page's topic on the editor modes describes it.
